Heritage Notes
The 4th Missile Battalion, 41st Artillery Regiment was activated on 14 January 1963 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, with four Pershing 1 missiles. The battalion deployed to West Germany aboard the USAT General Simon B. Buckner on 3 April 1964, establishing operations at Schwäbisch Gmünd under the 56th Artillery Group. Garrisoned at Hardt and Bismark Kasernes, the battalion expanded from four to eight launchers by 1965 and upgraded to 36 Pershing 1a missiles in 1969.
