The 167th Infantry Regiment traces its lineage to 1836, when it was organized as the Regiment of Alabama Militia. During the early nineteenth century, it served primarily as state troops but was called into federal service during the Seminole Wars and the Mexican–American War.[3] After the war, it continued service as independent companies.
